REALITY TELEVISION PROGRAMMING BRINGS TWO SANTA BARBARA COMPANIES TOGETHER
(Santa Barbara – March 28) In what is thought to be a first-of-its-kind deal, Santa Barbara based Foothill Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights to a package of top rated television series, On Duty and, for North America, On Patrol with the Santa Barbara PD, from outstanding producers, ME Productions, also of Santa Barbara!
According to company spokesmen, Foothill has acquired worldwide rights to the unique and exciting series On Duty (13 x 22’) that follows the thrilling day to day exploits of the brave men and women of the Santa Barbara California fire departments. With state of the art production from ME Productions, On Duty places you in the middle of the action as firefighters battle home and wildfires, rappel down cliffs for mountain rescues and administer emergency medical care, all set in the gorgeous Southern California sun. Never before has a television series given the viewer the unique “you are there” perspective that On Duty provides, while also showing a closer, more personal glimpse into the lives and personalities of firefighters.
“It is great to be able to work with local people on projects that are, at its heart, locally oriented,” said the program’s Executive Producers Ira and Linda Distenfield. “We did talk to other international distributors, in London, New York and other places. So we were ecstatic that we were able to find the expertise that we needed right down the street.”
Foothill has also picked up North American rights from ME to On Patrol with the Santa Barbara PD (52 x 22’) which has entered its fourth season chronicling the daily efforts of the Santa Barbara police department. The series has already been sold to Scandinavian television.
Foothill President Jo Kavanagh-Payne is quoted as saying “We have been distributing and selling television programmes produced around the world from our offices on State Street in Santa Barbara. That is why we are so excited to be able to bring programmes produced in Santa Barbara to the rest of the world.”
Foothill is taking both series to the international television market, MIP-TV in Cannes starting April 4th where On Duty will be debuting for global buyers.
ME Productions, a division of Marketing Express of Santa Barbara, Inc. produces both On Duty and On Patrol with the Santa Barbara PD, now in its fourth season. Founded by Ira and Linda Distenfield, the company specializes in marketing and business promotion in addition to acting as both executive and supervising producers of the two series.
Founded in September 2000 by former DIC Entertainment Executive Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs, Gregory Payne, and Jo Kavanagh-Payne, former Link Television Entertainment, Inc. Senior Vice President of U.S. Operations, Foothill specializes in the co-development and distribution of children’s and family entertainment programming.
